The King of Morocco responds positively to Trump’s invitation to join the Peace Council
Rabat announced that the Moroccan monarch, King Mohammed VI, has responded to the invitation extended by U.S. President Donald Trump to join the “Peace Council” concerning the Gaza Strip.
On Saturday, Trump announced the establishment of a “Peace Council” tasked with overseeing the governance of the Gaza Strip and its reconstruction after the war.
A number of world leaders received invitations to join the council, which Trump has expressed his desire to chair.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, it was stated that King Mohammed VI “responded positively to this invitation”.
The ministry, in a statement published by the official Maghreb Arab Press Agency, considered that this invitation constitutes “a recognition of the enlightened leadership” of King Mohammed VI, of the “confidence” he enjoys among the President of the United States and the international community, and of “his standing as an actor in the field of peace”.
The King of Morocco praised President Donald Trump’s commitment and vision to advance peace.
The statement explained that the Peace Council “will legally take the form of an international organization aspiring to promote stability, establish good governance, and ensure sustainable peace in regions affected by or threatened with conflict”.
It added that “the mission of this important structure will be based on practical cooperation, effective action, and partnerships oriented toward tangible results. Participation in this council will be exclusively by invitation from the President of the United States of America”.
In a related context, Morocco welcomed the announcement of the launch of the second phase of President Trump’s comprehensive peace plan, as well as the official establishment of the National Commission for the Administration of Gaza as a temporary transitional body.
The kingdom also renewed “the steadfast commitment of King Mohammed VI to a just, comprehensive and lasting peace in the Middle East, enabling the establishment of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, living side by side in peace with Israel”.
The White House had clarified that a Peace Council chaired by Trump would be formed in accordance with the American plan to end the war in Gaza.
The U.S. presidency revealed the names of politicians and diplomats who will participate in the “Peace Council” or in the “Executive Council”, while other officials announced that they had received invitations.
