The Most Famous Princess Diana Sweater Sold for Over a Million Dollars

A famous sweater associated with Princess Diana was sold for $1.14 million in an auction held by Sotheby’s in New York.

The sweater is known for its unique design, featuring a black sheep among rows of white sheep on a red background. The late princess became famous for wearing it at a polo match in June 1981, shortly after her engagement to Prince Charles, the current king.

The bidding for the sweater began on August 31st, and the highest bid remained below $200,000 until the final minutes of the auction.

The identity of the buyer of the sweater has not been disclosed.

This simple piece of clothing achieved a higher price than many other items associated with the “People’s Princess” that have been sold at auctions in recent years.

For example, Princess Diana’s Ford Escort car was sold for $806,000 in 2022.

The auction house stated, “It has been confirmed that the sweater is the original one worn by Princess Diana over 40 years ago.”

Many believe that the sweater carries a hidden meaning, as the lone black sheep among the white ones is seen as a reference to the princess’s position within the royal family.
