The Muslim Brotherhood and the Houthis… Playing Openly After “Under-the-Table” Alliances

The dubious relationship between the Houthi militias and the Muslim Brotherhood became apparent in a statement published by the group regarding the airstrikes conducted by American aircraft on Yemeni cities.

The latest statement from the Muslim Brotherhood revealed their true face, calling for comprehensive attacks against American interests after a series of strikes targeting Houthi militia positions in Yemen.

This statement reflects the Muslim Brotherhood‘s shift from aligning with the Houthi group to openly advocating for an alliance with them, to fight in their defense and for what they call the “Axis of Resistance,” which is supported by Iran.

The rhetoric used by the Muslim Brotherhood in their new statement and their support for the Houthi militias reflects their approach based on violence, and their belief in the necessity of relying on armed force to achieve political goals. This is particularly evident as the statement coincided with calls by members of the Brotherhood, on social media, to take up arms and return to the Brotherhood’s secret armed organization.

The statement issued by the General Secretariat of the Muslim Brotherhood, also known as the “Change Current,” reveals that they have chosen to align themselves with the “global terrorism” camp by inciting transnational violence. This signals further internal divisions within the Muslim Brotherhood, as well as an increase in international prosecutions and bans on a group that continuously proves its inclination toward extremism and terrorism.

The group called on its supporters and sympathizers to stand with the Houthi militias, classified as terrorists, and defend them against the direct American campaign targeting them, considering that “it is the duty of the group’s members and all Muslims toward the militias.”

The Muslim Brotherhood urged attacks on American interests and targets in the region and around the world “until the attacks on the Houthis stop,” as well as attacking countries that are fighting against the rebel group.

Previously, Houthi political bureau member Mohammed al-Bukheiti had called on the Muslim Brotherhood in Yemen and abroad to put aside their old disagreements with the Houthis and join what is called the “Axis of Resistance” under the banner of Iran.
