The truth behind the video of “Hamas” detaining American Soldiers in Gaza

A different kind of weapon is taking over the ongoing Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, which has been going on for 33 consecutive days, sparking widespread debate on social media.

Images and video clips are being widely circulated, claiming to be from the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip. However, they quickly find their way to falsehood.

The latest of these videos is a clip shared on social media accounts, claiming that it shows American “Marines” soldiers who have fallen into the hands of armed Hamas militants. Hamas has been holding 242 hostages since its surprise attack on Israeli towns on the seventh of last month.

The video, which has garnered tens of thousands of shares on social media platforms, shows a number of soldiers apparently detained in what appears to be a tunnel. It is captioned, “Prisoners on 1/11/2023 from American Marines.”

This video was published at a time when Israel continues its airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, which has resulted in the deaths of over ten thousand Palestinians, according to the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip.

Yesterday, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant stated at a press conference that his soldiers have advanced into the heart of Gaza City and are “tightening the noose,” without specifying their exact locations.

In the wake of Hamas‘s attack that resulted in the deaths of 1,400 people on the Israeli side, Washington expressed unconditional support for Israel and announced the deployment of the aircraft carriers “Gerald Ford” and “USS Eisenhower.”

The truth behind the video

The video clip published in mid-October has nothing to do with what is happening in Gaza. Instead, it shows Russian soldiers captured by Ukrainian forces.

This fact has also been confirmed by the “In France, In the Balance” service provided by the French agency, which verifies the accuracy of images and video clips.

It is worth noting that Russia has neither confirmed nor denied the capture of some of its soldiers by Ukrainian forces last month.
