The UAE supports reconstruction efforts in Gaza
The Emirati Foreign Minister emphasizes the necessity of ceasefire and ensuring the urgent, intensive, secure, and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian and medical aid to Gaza
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today, Saturday, the allocation of $5 million to support the significant efforts of UN humanitarian coordinators in the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, which has been under a devastating Israeli war and a suffocating siege for about four months. This initiative adds to the numerous initiatives launched by the UAE aimed at alleviating the humanitarian catastrophe in the Palestinian territory.
The official Emirati news agency “WAM” indicated that “Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan affirmed his country’s commitment to supporting the humanitarian operations carried out by the United Nations in the Gaza Strip and supporting Sigrid Kaag in her efforts to alleviate the suffering of the people of Gaza and enhance the urgent humanitarian response to their needs,” emphasizing that this decision is in line with the directives of the President of the State, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The Emirati Foreign Minister met with the UN official Kaag on Friday, who is on an unspecified duration visit to the UAE, discussing “the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza due to the war, and ways to deal with its repercussions rapidly and coordinatedly to contribute to alleviating the suffering of civilians and meeting their needs,” according to the same source. The Emirati Minister stressed the necessity of “ceasing fire and ensuring the urgent, intensive, secure, and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian, relief, and medical aid to the Palestinian people in the sector.”
Since the outbreak of the war on Gaza, the UAE has been making continuous efforts around the clock to deliver humanitarian aid to the Palestinian territory and has been internationally pressing for the creation of safe humanitarian corridors, within an Emirati approach focusing on the humanitarian issue with the aim of alleviating the disaster.
Abu Dhabi has also sent tens of tons of relief aid to the Palestinian territory and recently received dozens of children accompanied by their families for treatment in its hospitals under the directives of the President. The UAE sent a new shipment of relief aid on February 1st as part of the “The Gallant Knight 3” campaign, including tons of medical supplies and basic necessities for the people of Gaza.
In November, the UAE launched the “The Gallant Knight 3” operation as part of its efforts to support the people of Gaza and sent several relief aircraft through an airlift bridge, as well as being proactive in sending a field hospital to provide urgent medical services to war casualties.
Since October 7th, the Israeli army has been waging a war on Gaza, resulting until today, Saturday, in 27,238 martyrs and 66,452 injured, mostly children and women, according to Palestinian authorities, causing immense destruction and an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe, according to the United Nations.
