To Protect Privacy: Palestinian Woman Masters Mobile Phone Repair
Palestinian woman Wala Hamad has carved out a niche for herself by launching a project to repair mobile phones from home, providing services to other women in Gaza who are reluctant to allow male technicians access to their photos and social media accounts.
Wala started her project with the assistance of the Amjad Association for Creativity and Community Development, a non-governmental organization that aims to empower unemployed female graduates and help them find employment opportunities through workshops and other activities.
Wala said, “The idea is excellent for maintaining privacy for women and girls.”
One of the trainees stated, “Dealing with women in this field preserves privacy. I encourage all girls to take part in this experience.”
Economic opportunities are scarce in the besieged Gaza Strip, where half of the population, particularly women, suffers from unemployment. However, sometimes women can find greater opportunities.
