Transfer of Armed Elements from Syria to Libya… A New Muslim Brotherhood Plan

Recent journalistic reports have highlighted information regarding the transfer of new elements from Syria to Libya and the involvement of the Muslim Brotherhood in this move. This has raised concerns among the Libyan public about the potential reignition of tensions.

Experts warned via the Al-Rafidain website that the Libyan front might soon receive “jihadist elements” and new groups, especially after the fall of the Syrian regime.

In this context, Ahmed Sultan, a researcher specializing in extremist groups, stated, “Experience in the region has shown that extremist elements move according to the agendas and objectives of certain states.”

In an interview with Sputnik, he added, “The past period saw jihadist elements joining the fight alongside Ukrainians against the Russian army, in coordination with certain intelligence agencies.”

Sultan explained that “the coming period might witness the transfer of jihadists or mercenaries to the Libyan front, but their role and activities will depend on specific agreements and agendas.”

He warned that “some parties aim to ignite the situation in Libya, hoping to replicate what happened in Syria, with armed groups and militias taking control of the Libyan scene.”

He believes that “the Libyan front is likely to flare up again, especially after the events in Syria, in addition to escalating tensions in the Sahel and Sahara regions, as well as in Sudan. All these factors contribute to a worsening situation.”

For his part, Professor of International Law, Dr. Mohamed Zubeida, stated, “Syrian mercenaries in Tripoli have displayed their strength in the streets of the city, coinciding with the events in Syria.”

In an interview with Sputnik, he added, “They are currently stationed in large numbers at Al-Watiya Airbase, Yarmouk Camp, and Sidi Bilal Base.”

He noted that “the recruitment of mercenaries or the addition of armed elements to these groups could occur from neighboring countries through Libya’s borders.”

According to the Al-Marsad website, the transfer of an armed group from Syria to Libya is part of arrangements orchestrated by the Muslim Brotherhood to target Egypt. The Brotherhood is considered a significant faction within the opposition that succeeded in toppling the Syrian regime.
