Trump tries to attack Harris through her father… What happened?

Former President Donald Trump labeled his rival Kamala Harris as a “Marxist,” despite the vice president repeatedly stating her support for capitalism.

Early in the televised debate held on Tuesday night, Trump attacked Vice President Kamala Harris by linking her to her father.

Trump said of Harris, “She’s a Marxist – everyone knows she’s a Marxist.” He added, “Her father is a Marxist economics professor, and he taught her well.”

However, Harris has consistently stated over the past years that she supports capitalism. Her father, Donald Harris, a renowned economist who played a minor role in her life, has been described as a “Marxist scholar.”

Marxism refers to the political, social, and economic theories of Karl Marx, which are the foundation of socialism or communism.

Dr. Harris was the first Black scholar to obtain a position in the economics department at Stanford University and was one of the most prominent critics of mainstream economic theory.

According to a report by The Stanford Daily, a student newspaper at the university, published in 1976, there was some opposition to granting him tenure because he was “highly charismatic” and “a theorist who misled students away from neoclassical economics.”

Dr. Harris is still a professor emeritus at Stanford University, and he turned 86 last month, specifically the day after his daughter’s speech at the Democratic National Convention.

Dr. Harris did not appear alongside his daughter that evening, but she gave him a rare acknowledgment in her speech, saying that his encouragement had inspired her.

In her presidential nomination acceptance speech, Harris said: “From my earliest years, he taught me to be courageous.”

It’s worth noting that Harris, who has often expressed her support for capitalism, garnered the backing of more than 80 CEOs during her current campaign, with some describing her as “pro-business.”
