US report: Washington to impose new sanctions on Houthi

New US sanctions on Houthi expected this week

US administration officials are considering new financial sanctions this week against Houthi militias and their leaders, according to a report by the Associated Press on Wednesday.

The report added that the Houthi militias are exposing the administration of President Joe Biden to another setback in foreign policy, as they launched cross-border drone strikes and ballistic missiles targeting Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

To counter this, U.S. officials are considering financial measures targeting the Houthi and senior figures in the group, with possible new sanctions as early as this week, the source said.

The Biden administration is seeking to reassure Gulf strategic allies, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, that they will provide defense support.
