US State Department decides to provide new military support for Saudi Arabia to face the regional threats

On Monday, the US State Department declared that it would provide Saudi Arabia with an additional five years of technical aid and advisory support to help confront the regional threats.

In a statement, the department announced that the sale with an estimated cost of $350 million would contain the support given to Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense.

The statement said: This proposed sale will support the foreign policy goals and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a friendly country that is a force for political stability and economic progress in the Middle East. In fact, this would also help Saudi Arabia’s ability to confront current and future threats, including regional threats

Otherwise, the US declared that it intends to sell around 300 military Humvees, with an estimate $55.5 million cost.

The State Department also related: The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale today.

Washington stated that the M1152 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs) sale occurs after a demand from the Lebanese government.

The State Department reported: Also included are spare and repair parts, publications and technical documentation, personnel training and training equipment, technical and logistics support services, and other related elements of logistical and program support.

It should be noted that Washington has faced pushback for supporting the Lebanese army, with fear and accusations that it coordinates with Iran-backed Hezbollah.

However, Lebanon’s army was one of the first in the region that successfully destroys ISIS and is considered by the US government as a critical partner in the fight against terrorism.
