With new weapons… Hezbollah threatens to target U.S. bases in Iraq amid the escalating war between
Hamas and the Israeli occupation forces, the spokesperson for the Hezbollah group in Iraq, Mohammed Mohie, affirmed the continuation of targeting U.S. forces in Iraq, potentially using new weapons. This comes just hours after the group announced the strike on a U.S. military base at Erbil Airport in northern Iraq using a drone.
Mohammed Mohie stated that the factions have been in an open confrontation with U.S. forces since the invasion of Iraq in 2003, according to the Arab World News Agency (AWP). He pointed out that the factions might use new weapons to target U.S. bases, considering their presence in Iraq as illegitimate.
Mohammed Mohie clarified that the Jurf al-Sakhr area targeted by Washington is an area where Iraqi security forces are deployed, including the army, federal police, and Popular Mobilization Units (PMU). Therefore, it cannot be classified as belonging to one entity over another; rather, it pertains to all Iraqi security agencies, according to his statement
Regarding the presence of U.S. forces in Iraq, the spokesperson for the Hezbollah Brigades said, “The U.S. forces claim to be present in Iraqi military bases in the form of advisers and non-combat troops, but the reality contradicts this, as U.S. forces are present militarily and engage in military activities on Iraqi soil to impose their will on the political, security, and military reality in Iraq.”
As for the possibilities of dragging Iraq into a war, Mohie saw that the American presence in Iraq is the cause of the destabilization of the security and economic situation. The United States is working to turn the country into a military arena in favor of its security and the security of Israel. He called on the U.S. to withdraw its bases and soldiers for the stability of Iraq.
In the past 24 hours, the Hezbollah group in Iraq announced two drone attacks, one targeting Al-Harir base and the other Erbil Airport in northern Iraq, in response to the intense Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip. The statement added that they directly hit the base.
Since mid-October of last year, U.S. forces, whether in Iraq or Syria, have faced more than 61 rocket or drone attacks.
It is worth noting that many Iran-backed factions in Iraq, Syria, and Yemen (the Houthis) have threatened to target American interests and bases in the region if the intense Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip continue.
