Yemen: Houthis rebels committed 3243 violations of truce

The Yemeni government revealed that the Houthi militias committed 3243 violations of the truce, and renewed its accusation to the putschists that they did not implement any of the provisions of the U.N. agreement.

Yemeni Information Minister Muammar al-Eryani promised to fulfill its obligations in terms of military operations and facilitating the entry of ships and flights to Sanaa airport.

In a series of posts on his Twitter account, al-Eryani said that during the truce, Houthi militias continued to violate the truce, with a total of 3,243 violations from April 2 through May 31, 2022, in four Yemeni governorates.

The Houthi violations varied from drone attacks to ballistic and artillery rockets, medium and light weapons, military reinforcements, site development and mine-laying.

Al-Eryani said the Yemeni government translated its commitment to implement the truce, support a peaceful solution to the crisis, make the UN envoy’s efforts a success and end the suffering of Yemenis through a ceasefire, facilitating the arrival of oil derivative ships to the port of Hodeida and restarting Sanaa airport. The Houthi militia refused to implement any of the truce’s obligations, he said.

“Despite the Houthi terrorist militia‘s failure to implement its part of the agreement and to supply the revenues of oil derivatives received through the port of Hodeida in order to pay the salaries of Yemeni state employees, the number of ships carrying a total of 763,387 metric tons totaled 18 vessels between April 1 and May 31, 2022”, he said.

He continued: “The number of departing flights arriving at Sanaa International Airport from May 16th to June 1st reached six, benefiting 2,424 citizens. Despite the attempts of the Houthi militia to put obstacles and obstacles to the reopening of the airport, the government made a number of concessions in order to fulfill its responsibilities to citizens and alleviate their suffering”, the Yemeni minister said.

Al-Eryani said Houthi militias rejected all proposals made by the UN envoy and the government delegation in Jordan’s consultations on lifting the siege on Taiz, declaring their intention to take unilateral measures of a military nature and exacerbate human suffering.

The Yemeni official said this is an affirmation of the Houthi militias’ pursuit of a policy of punishment and genocide against the people of the province, which is under a tight siege.

Al-Eryani called on the international community, the United Nations and U.S. envoys to exert real and effective pressure on the Houthi terrorist militia to comply with the pacification efforts and establish peace.

He also stressed the need to immediately lift the siege on Taiz and stop using the truce as a way to compensate for its losses and to get its ranks in order to prepare for a new round of war.

The humanitarian truce came into effect on 2 April and was renewed for another two months on 2 June, as the Yemeni government and the Arab coalition completed implementation of its provisions and Houthi did not implement any provisions including lifting the siege of Taiz and delivering salaries.
