Yemen: Lightning strike kills young football player during a match

A lightning strike claimed the life of a young Yemeni football player on Tuesday, as he played football with his friends in Ibb province, in the northern part of the country.

Local sources reported that 15-year-old Tajeddine Salim died while playing football with his peers on the field of the Faculty of Science at Ibb University.

According to sources speaking to Erem News, the boy, a member of the junior football team at the “Shaab Ibb” sports club, was playing barefoot when the lightning struck him, leaving his teammates in a state of shock and disbelief.

The young player died instantly, despite attempts to rush him to a nearby hospital from Ibb University.

Since the beginning of this year, more than 160 Yemenis have lost their lives due to lightning strikes, in addition to over 330 fatalities caused by floods last month in the governorates of Hodeida, Hajjah, Al-Mahwit, and Dhamar.
