Indian officials have reported that two farmers were killed by lightning strikes in the state of West Bengal yesterday, Sunday.

Authorities added that a man (26 years old) was fatally struck by lightning in Tarakeswar in the Hooghly district while another person (38 years old) also died while working in the fields.

Officials, in statements to the Indian news agency “Press Trust of India” yesterday, as cited by the German news agency, said that a man (26 years old) was killed by lightning in Tarakeswar in the Hooghly district, and the incident occurred while the man was working in the fields amid heavy rainfall.

Officials noted that another man (38 years old) also died in the “North 24 Parganas” area while working in one of the fields, with the incident occurring in the Jaygata region.

The Indian Meteorological Department had forecast thunderstorm formation in the country, with thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds in the area and in North West Bengal until next Wednesday, due to cyclonic circulation over northern Bangladesh and high moisture from the Bay of Bengal.
