UAE mediates, Ukraine releases 63 Russian POWs

The Russian Defense Ministry announced Saturday that 63 Russian prisoners of war have been released as a result of a complicated negotiation process with Ukraine mediated by the United Arab Emirates.

The group of freed Russian servicemen included “sensitive” individuals, the Interfax news agency reported, citing the ministry.

The Russian Defense Forces confirmed that the released prisoners are now in the territory of the Russian Federation and are provided with the necessary psychological and medical assistance, as well as the opportunity to contact their relatives.

Russia and Ukraine have conducted numerous prisoner exchanges, the most recent on 8 January, involving hundreds of prisoners from both sides during the war, which is nearing the end of its first year.
