US-Iraqi-Jordanian talks on “ISIS and the situation in the region”
US-Iraqi-Jordanian talks on the situation in the region, during which US President Joe Biden assured Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani of his country’s support for Baghdad.
Al Sudani spoke with Biden by phone on Friday. According to the Iraqi National Agency, Al Sudani made the comments while an Iraqi Central Bank delegation was meeting with a United States Federal Reserve Bank delegation in Istanbul, Turkey, to discuss the devaluation of the dinar against the dollar and restoring the price to its specified value by the Iraqi government.
In a statement, the White House announced a telephone conversation between Biden and Al Sudani in which Jordan’s King Abdullah II (who is in Washington) participated at Biden’s request. The three parties discussed the situation in the region.
The White House revealed the content of the conversation between Biden and Al Sudani. He indicated that the American president assured Al Sudani of the United States’ commitment to assisting Iraq, discussed with him events in the region, and confirmed Washington’s commitment to the Strategic Framework Agreement signed between the two parties.
In the phone call, the US president praised the Iraqi prime minister’s efforts to strengthen Iraq’s sovereignty and independence.
According to the statement, the two sides discussed the prime minister’s economic work program to ensure an Iraqi economy that serves Iraqis, “which is a policy supported by the United States.”
The US president also referred to the upcoming visit of Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein to the United States next week, which aims primarily to discuss economic issues in Iraq.
Al Sudani and Biden emphasized that ISIS will not be allowed to pose a threat to the security of Iraqis, the region and the world again, and agreed to coordinate closely in the coming months.
Biden also confirmed Washington’s commitment to the Strategic Framework Agreement with Iraq, noting the United States’ commitment to Iraq and consulting with it on regional developments.
The statement, issued by the White House, indicated that King Abdullah II of Jordan confirmed, in the three-way telephone conversation, his country’s support for Iraq through joint strategic projects for the reconstruction of Iraq’s infrastructure.
