With rising tensions in Europe, the “Global Fire Power” website has published its list of the continent’s strongest armies for 2024.

According to the data released by the website, the United Kingdom is the strongest military power in Europe, ranking sixth globally.

The UK allocates 2.2% of its GDP, amounting to £2.4 trillion, to defense.

The Royal Air Force has 664 aircraft, 18% of which are classified as fighters. The Royal Navy operates 117 ships, including 11 frigates, 10 submarines, and 26 patrol vessels.

Additionally, the British Army possesses 126 artillery systems, 71 self-propelled artillery, and 213 tanks.

Italy ranks second, with over 50% of its army personnel in service this year. It ranks 14th globally and has an air force with 800 aircraft, 11% of which are classified as fighters.

Moreover, the Italian Navy has 8 submarines, 18 patrol vessels, and 13 frigates. The ground forces have 200 tanks, 64 self-propelled artillery, and 108 pieces of towed artillery.

France ranks third in Europe with 376,000 soldiers, possessing the largest army in the European Union in terms of personnel, and holds 11th place globally.

France owns 992 aircraft, including 224 fighters. Its ground forces include 222 tanks, 96 self-propelled artillery, and 85,023 vehicles.

Ukraine ranks fourth in Europe and 18th globally. Experts attribute the rise in Ukraine’s military strength to the financial and material support from its Western allies, especially the United States.

Germany ranks fifth in Europe and 19th globally, with 284 Leopard tanks, 674 infantry fighting vehicles, 121 pieces of 155mm artillery, 8 frigates, and 226 Eurofighter and Tornado fighter jets. However, some of these assets are not service-ready, as 18 Puma tanks broke down during Germany’s latest military drills.

Spain ranks sixth, followed by Poland, Sweden, and Greece, with Portugal ranking tenth.
