Chinese AI models are among the most popular on the Hugging Face platform, a repository for AI models. Technical analysts and industry insiders note that these models enjoy widespread popularity, matching the performance of their US competitors and even surpassing them in some cases.
In this context, Tiezhen Wang, a machine learning engineer at Hugging Face, stated that Chinese models are the most downloaded on the platform. He highlighted the “Qwen” model family, developed by the Chinese e-commerce giant, as the most popular due to its outstanding performance in competitive benchmarks. Furthermore, its licensing model is “extremely flexible,” allowing companies to use it without significant legal complications.
Many Chinese companies are leaning toward developing open-source models that developers can download and use for free without requiring complex licenses.
