“Avocado” Threatened with Extinction

“The best avocado growing areas in the world are expected to shrink by up to 41% by 2050.”

Avocado is considered one of the foods rich in healthy nutrients and antioxidants, as well as being popular with many people, both young and old. However, according to a new report published by the Daily Mail, experts say that the prices of this fruit may soon rise, as it is now threatened with extinction due to climate change.

Experts believe that avocado fruit impacts the environment, as it requires a lot of water during its growth period, making it vulnerable to extinction due to climate change factors, especially in hot and dry regions.

Researchers believe that the best avocado growing areas in the world are expected to shrink by up to 41% by 2050, due to land dryness and water scarcity.

In the new report titled “The Climate Danger Facing Avocado,” published by the London-based charity organization Christian Aid, experts stated, “It’s not surprising that avocados are popular worldwide, as they are excellent food, but today they are threatened due to climate change.”

They added, “Avocado is water-thirsty and does not suit the warm or dry planet, and these changes will worsen if countries do not move to reduce the use of fossil fuels and decrease toxic emissions.”

It is worth mentioning that a large percentage of the world’s population relies on avocado fruit due to its high content of fiber, vitamins, and healthy fats essential for human health.
