Continuous Humanitarian Initiatives: The UAE Strengthens International Cooperation to Support Gaza

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is committed to enhancing cooperation with various regional and global partners to provide humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

This clear message was reiterated by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan during his talks with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

The message reflects the UAE’s policy and leadership, as well as its historical commitment to supporting the Palestinian people and alleviating the humanitarian crisis they are facing. The UAE has been translating this commitment into action through continuous initiatives to support Palestine in general and the people of Gaza in particular.

Evacuating Gaza’s Wounded

Among the latest initiatives, the UAE, in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), carried out an emergency humanitarian operation on Wednesday to evacuate 97 critically injured and sick individuals from Gaza, including cancer patients in need of intensive treatment, accompanied by 155 family members, including 142 children. They were transferred to Abu Dhabi from Israel’s Ramon Airport via the Kerem Shalom crossing for specialized medical care.

This is the second evacuation operation conducted by the UAE from Ramon Airport to overcome challenges in transporting Gaza’s wounded for treatment, amidst the continued closure of the Rafah crossing controlled by Israel.

On July 30, the UAE had conducted a similar emergency operation in partnership with WHO, evacuating 85 critically ill patients, including cancer patients, along with 63 family members, to Abu Dhabi for medical treatment.

On the occasion of the new evacuation, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation, Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashimy, stated: “This new mission to evacuate Palestinian wounded and sick reaffirms the UAE’s steadfast commitment to supporting the Palestinian people during the catastrophic situation in Gaza.”

She added, “We will continue working diligently with international partners and the UN to support and amplify efforts aimed at mitigating this humanitarian disaster.”

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus expressed his gratitude to the UAE for supporting the evacuation of Gaza’s wounded and sick, hoping that this initiative will lead to more evacuations in the future.

Combatting Polio

Simultaneously, the UAE launched an emergency vaccination campaign in Gaza to protect over 640,000 children from the risk of polio, as part of an initiative ordered by President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, who allocated $5 million to support the effort.

This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to support Gaza’s health sector under the “Gallant Knight 3” operation. The vaccination campaign, organized in collaboration with WHO, UNICEF, and UNRWA, has already vaccinated over 460,000 children.

Leadership Consultations

The situation in Gaza and ways to support its people were central to discussions between the UAE and Cypriot Presidents in Abu Dhabi. Both leaders emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire to facilitate safe and sustainable humanitarian aid.

A Humanitarian Epic

Through these initiatives, the UAE has demonstrated its leading role in supporting Gaza’s residents and global humanitarian efforts. The “ Gallant Knight ” operation continues to provide food, shelter, and essential supplies to struggling Palestinian families.

In numbers, the UAE has provided Gaza with over 40,000 tons of aid, established field hospitals, and set up water desalination stations to supply daily drinking water to thousands of residents.
