“Coordination and Intelligence”… This is how America cooperated with Israel in Lebanon’s strike

A senior Israeli official said on Sunday that the United States was aware in advance of the strike against Hezbollah and that there was full coordination with Tel Aviv.

The official, speaking to the American website “Axios,” confirmed that “Israel is acting alone against Hezbollah, but in full coordination with the United States.”

The Israeli official added that “the update received by the U.S. administration under President Joe Biden was not at the last minute,” indicating that they were informed in advance of the attack.

Military intelligence coordination

Israeli and American officials confirmed that the attack was based on intelligence information obtained by both countries over the past 48 hours, showing that Hezbollah was preparing to launch an imminent attack.

According to the Hebrew site “Walla,” Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant spoke with his American counterpart, Lloyd Austin, and explained: “We attacked Lebanon to remove an immediate threat against Israel. We are monitoring what is happening there and are determined to use all available means to protect our citizens.”

In a statement, the U.S. Department of Defense indicated that Austin “spoke with the Israeli Defense Minister to discuss Israel’s defense against Hezbollah attacks.”

The statement added that Austin emphasized the United States’ steadfast commitment to defending Israel against any attacks from Iran, its partners, or proxies in the region.

As for President Joe Biden, he announced that he was following the exchanges of strikes between Hezbollah and Israel and was in communication with his national security team.

Support for Israel

White House National Security Council spokesman Sean Savett said that President Biden “is closely monitoring events in Israel and Lebanon.”

He added that “senior U.S. officials are in continuous communication with their Israeli counterparts under his direction. We will continue to support Israel’s right to defend itself and work for regional stability.”

The United States immediately reaffirmed that it “will continue to support Israel’s right to defend itself,” while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pledged to “do everything” to restore security in northern Israel.

The United States, which has strengthened its military presence in the region in recent weeks, reiterated its readiness to support “Israel’s right to defend itself.”

White House National Security Council spokesman Sean Savett emphasized that, under President Biden’s direction, “senior U.S. officials remain in continuous communication with their Israeli counterparts,” adding, “We will continue to support Israel’s right to defend itself and work to maintain regional stability.”

A Pentagon spokesperson explained: “We continue to closely monitor the situation and have been very clear that the United States is ready to support Israel’s defense.”

Details of the attack

The Israeli army announced that it is “conducting strikes in Lebanon to eliminate Hezbollah threats after detecting preparations to launch rockets and missiles toward Israeli territory.”

The Israeli army addressed a message to residents of southern Lebanon, calling on them to “immediately leave areas where Hezbollah is active to protect themselves and their families.”

It confirmed that a series of airstrikes targeted Harsh Kunin, Rshaf, Tiri, Beit Yahoun, Al-Khardali, Zoutar, the Iqlim al-Tuffah region, and Rayhan in southern Lebanon.

The Israeli army also announced that it had destroyed “thousands of rocket launch platforms” belonging to Hezbollah in southern Lebanon during strikes involving “about 100 warplanes.”

State of emergency

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu chaired a meeting of the security cabinet, while Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant declared a 48-hour state of emergency.

In a statement issued by his office, the Prime Minister said: “We are determined to do everything to protect our country and bring the residents of the north safely back to their homes, while continuing to follow a simple rule: whoever harms us, we will harm them.”

Fears of a larger regional military escalation had been rising in recent weeks as the war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip continued for ten months, following threats from Iran and Hezbollah to retaliate for the assassination of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh on July 31 in Tehran, attributed to Israel, and the assassination of Fouad Shokr in the southern suburbs of Beirut in an Israeli strike.
