Does America supply Israel with the ‘Mother of All Bombs’?
The American newspaper Wall Street Journal revealed that Washington has supplied Israel with heavy bunker-busting bombs and tens of thousands of ammunition and artillery shells. In late October, members of Congress submitted a request to lift the ban on selling the “Mother of All Bombs” to Israel to maintain its qualitative superiority in its regional surroundings.
Israel has requested larger models of the “Mother of All Bombs,” weighing 8 tons, to eliminate the tunnels built by Hamas in the Gaza Strip. He pointed out that American weapons have contributed to Israel committing violations and massacres against civilians in Gaza, making the U.S. responsible for these crimes.
For its part, the Israeli Channel 12 confirmed that the “Mother of All Bombs” that Israel seeks to acquire to eliminate Hamas tunnels is called “GBU-57,” weighing 14 tons. It is capable of penetrating up to 60 meters underground and is the largest non-nuclear bomb in the U.S. arsenal.
According to the Israeli newspaper Yediot Aharonot, Tel Aviv has used all its bunker-busting bombs and American “Hellfire” missiles to strike Hamas tunnels.
The magazine Responsible Statecraft stated that U.S. support for Israel with weapons and ammunition has exceeded $130 billion. The magazine affirmed that the weapons supplies provided by the United States to Israel are free, directed through foreign military financing, and military assistance and excess defense articles programs.
Credible information published by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute revealed that 79% of Israel‘s weapons between 2018 and 2022 were supplied by Washington. Germany ranked second with a percentage of 20% of weapons, and Italy came in third with a percentage of 2%.
Israel deployed its entire arsenal in the war, using the latest in its inventory of bombs, guided missiles, and bunker-busting weaponry, destroying more than 60% of buildings and infrastructure in Gaza.
According to the government office in Gaza, American weapons caused significant damage to the sector, as Israel used explosives equivalent to two nuclear bombs.
It is worth noting that Israel already uses such bombs in Gaza, but of the smaller GPU-72 type, weighing up to 2500 kilograms, in addition to the vacuum bomb of the MK-84 type that penetrates certain layers of the ground.
