Dubai space operations conference reviews latest technologies and challenges in the sector
The 17th edition of the International Conference on Space Operations 2023 (one of the most prominent global events in the space sector) continues for the third day in a row.
The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center is hosting the international event for the first time in the Arab world at the Dubai World Trade Center offering various discussions and insights on the latest technologies, challenges and solutions in space operations.
At the beginning of the third day, a discussion session was held titled “The Missions of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center: From Earth to Mars via the Moon,” which included a number of experts from the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center, namely Dr. Hamad Al Marzouqi, Director of the Emirates Project for Lunar Exploration, and Dr. Sarah Al Muaini, Systems Officer. Communication and the scientific team of the Emirates Moon Exploration Project, Abdullah Al Harmoul, Director of the Space Payloads and Scientific Instruments Department, and Khaled Badri, Senior Engineer of the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, and Saud Karmostaji, Director of the Strategic Communication Department at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center moderated the session.
The session dealt with the most prominent stages in the march of the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center, which began with manufacturing satellites, arriving on Mars and soon descending to the moon.
The third day of the conference also saw a session entitled “Sustainability of space operations and the impact of space technologies on Earth sustainability”, with representatives from the United Nations Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development, Astroscale, OneWeb, Nium Digital Holdings, AzurX and Kearney.
Pocar A. Ba, Advisor to the Board of Directors of the World Space Sustainability Society, also spoke during this session, explaining that 37% of the world’s population is not connected to the Internet and does not benefit from the digital economy, thus the space economy can be achieved using satellites to enhance connectivity to remote areas.
At the same time, the presentations held throughout the day covered a wide range of topics and provided a platform for space operations specialists to share their research and expertise, share knowledge and best practices, and discuss the latest developments and challenges in their areas.
The exhibition hall, which is full of space agency platforms, private companies and educational institutions, attracted attendees by displaying the latest innovations and services.
