Between division and crises… the Muslim Brotherhood group is on the path to the end

The Brotherhood, in many countries, is undergoing a severe structural crisis, coinciding with the years-long internal conflict that produced an unprecedented state of disintegration and organizational collapse, in addition to the political and activist stalemate that is shaking the current organization and forcing it into a state of “temporary death”.

Internal controversies

This comes at a time when the dispute between the two factions of the Brotherhood is still ongoing regarding the selection of a leader for the group or an acting leader. The spokesperson for the group, Oussama Selim, affiliated with the “London Front,” announced that the front has appointed “Mohieddin al-Zayt” as the acting leader until the necessary arrangements are made to appoint a successor to Ibrahim Munir, who died in November 2022 in London, where the London Front will announce the decision from the British capital, where “Abdul Hak” currently resides and who fled to London since the nineties. Meanwhile, the Istanbul Front announced through their spokesperson “Ali Hamad” the appointment of Mahmoud Hussein as the acting leader in accordance with Article 5 of the General Regulations of the group and rejected what the London Front did, confirming that “Salah Abdul Hak” has not been previously selected for this position, and that the group has only one council for the general Shura both internally and externally, and that what is issued by any illegal entities under any names is null and void, according to them.

Division and fragmentation

Tarek al-Basheishi, a leading Brotherhood defector, said the Brotherhood is suffering from division and fragmentation, as each party realizes that any step taken will be met with a backlash that will further divide the group. He said the organization is currently dying and suffers from clinical death, so it can no longer influence.

He added: The situation is very tense inside the Brotherhood, and the conflict is raging between the two sides, each with its own tools to attack the other, pointing out that both fronts are not concerned with what is called internal regulations, the struggle within the Brotherhood for control of leadership and money.

Lack of reference

A recent study published by the Trend Research and Advisory Center for Egyptian terrorism researcher Munir Adib, entitled “The Absence of Ideological Review of the Brotherhood and the Presence of Political Decline”, addressed the causes and repercussions of the current organizational and movement stalemate facing the Brotherhood and the future of the organization in light of current developments in this regard.

Standstill state

The Muslim Brotherhood has stagnated and declined like other Islamist political organizations to become a model for other organizations that have followed in the direction of religious and political calcification, after they refused to put forward any real initiatives, whether intellectual, doctrinal, or political.
