Economists reveal the significance of strong economic relations between Egypt and the UAE


Economic relations, investments, and trade cooperation are among the most important aspects of the bilateral relationship between the United Arab Emirates and the Arab Republic of Egypt. These ties have had a significant impact on strengthening and deepening their relations day by day.

A trading partner

The UAE has become the largest investor in Egypt, with investments exceeding $20 billion. It is also Egypt’s second-largest Arab trading partner, while Egypt ranks as the UAE’s fifth-largest non-oil Arab trading partner, accounting for 7% of its total non-oil trade with Arab countries.

The UAE boasts a strong presence in Egypt, with more than 1,600 companies operating in various sectors. These strong economic relations reflect the growing cooperation between the two countries in multiple fields, especially in the economic domain.

Exemplary relations

Engineer Mohamed Mohleb, a member of the Egypt-UAE Business Council and president of “Rowad Engineering,” affirmed that relations between the UAE and Egypt represent an exemplary model of bilateral relations between nations.

He added that relations between Egypt and the UAE are experiencing momentum on various levels, noting that the UAE is the largest Arab investor in Egypt. This is due to Egypt’s economic reform program and its position on the global investment map, making it an attractive destination for investments.

He pointed out that the UAE aims to direct the majority of its investments towards the port sector, praising the cooperation between the two countries in this and various other fields.

Investment successes

Dr. Karim El Omdah, Professor of International Economics, stated that the UAE is the largest Arab investor in Egypt and the third-largest globally, with cumulative investments exceeding $28 billion, including $9 billion in direct investments. Over 1,300 Emirati companies operate in Egypt, spanning various sectors and projects.

He added that Egypt and the UAE have successfully addressed many strategic issues, thanks to the wisdom of their leaders in maintaining security and stability, supporting international peace, and coordinating on climate issues. This ongoing coordination is based on shared views on regional and international matters. Regarding climate issues, continuous coordination exists, particularly with Egypt presiding over COP27 and the UAE hosting COP28.

He further highlighted that Egypt-UAE relations have been crowned with several investment agreements, including cooperation in trade, economics, and technology.
