Egypt: Twenty-year-old Woman Jumps from Car as Assailant Attempts Abduction
An Egyptian young woman jumped from a car as a young man attempted to sexually assault and abduct her in his private car on the “Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road”, precisely in the “Kerdasa” area in Giza Governorate.
The incident recalls the case of “Shorouk’s Girl”, Habiba El Shemaa, who threw herself from an Uber car as the driver tried to abduct her, and breathed her last at the hospital as a result.
Security authorities received a report from a 22-year-old woman accusing a young man of attempted sexual assault and abduction, indicating that she had met him on social media and they had agreed to meet at one of the cafes to meet face to face.
After the meeting, he insisted on driving her home in his car, and on the way, he attempted to sexually assault and abduct her, prompting her to jump from the car and risk her life.
The complainant stated that the young man physically and verbally assaulted her when she resisted him, and he also smashed her mobile phone.
Investigation authorities arrested the suspect and detained him for 24 hours for interrogation.
The Cairo Criminal Court sentenced the Uber driver accused of attempting to abduct Habiba El Shemaa to 15 years in prison and a fine of 50,000 Egyptian pounds, and canceled his driver’s license.
