Explosion Inside Apartment Building in Harbin, China

An explosion occurred in one of the apartments of a five-story residential building in the Chinese city of Harbin, resulting in a large fire inside the apartment.

The explosion shook the balcony of the apartment and many other balconies in neighboring apartments, located in the capital of China’s Heilongjiang province. People were seen running out of the building.

Ambulances, public security patrols, rescue teams, and firefighters rushed to the explosion site to investigate the incident and rescue any injured individuals.

The Chinese news agency Xinhua reported that the explosion occurred in an apartment on the fourth floor of the building, and residents heard a loud explosion, suspecting it to be a gas explosion.

The agency cited witnesses saying the explosion occurred after 7 a.m. local time (23:00 GMT) in a building located at the intersection of Xiangshun and Qunbin streets in central Harbin.

In March, two people were killed and 26 others injured after a suspected gas leak caused a massive explosion in a restaurant in Hebei province, northern China, destroying building facades and causing extensive damage to cars.
