Global Partner in Building the Future: UAE Chosen as the Only Arab and Regional State in Hiroshima AI Initiative
The prosperity and development witnessed by the UAE in recent years have made the world look towards the country as the future of the world. The UAE has become globally recognized for its technological advancements in recent years, placing it among the major nations of the world.
The UAE’s artificial intelligence (AI) strategy aims to achieve the UAE Centennial 2071 goals, accelerate the implementation of developmental programs and projects to reach the future, and rely on AI in services and data analysis by 100% by 2031 to enhance government performance, accelerate achievement, and create innovative work environments.
According to the UAE’s leadership vision, the aim is for the UAE government to be the first in the world to invest in AI across its vital sectors, creating a promising new market in the region with high economic value.
UAE’s Inclusion in the Hiroshima AI Initiative
The UAE has been selected as one of the member states and the only Arab and regional state in the “Hiroshima AI Initiative,” announced by Japan alongside the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Korea, and Japan, according to Omar Sultan Al Olama, UAE Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Economy.
Al Olama stated on his official account on the “X” platform that “the UAE stands as a global partner in the journey to build a future based on technology and innovation in line with its ambitious vision to achieve progress and leadership in these fields globally.”
Benefits of the Hiroshima Initiative
The Group of Seven leaders announced during their recent meeting in Japan the launch of the Hiroshima AI Initiative to establish international guidelines and a code of conduct for AI developers.
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, during a speech at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) headquarters in Paris, stated that “about 49 countries and regions have signed onto the voluntary framework, called the Hiroshima AI Initiative, without specifying any.”
Similar to ChatGPT, generative AI programs capable of producing computer code, texts, images, audio, and videos are flourishing worldwide, causing deep concern in many sectors. This has prompted many entities around the world to emphasize the importance of discussing “governance and protection of intellectual property rights” and “responsible use” of these new technologies, alongside measures to “counter information manipulation” and “misinformation” through these tools.
Emirati journalist Saif Alderei stated: “The future of AI is being shaped by the United States, the UAE, and the Microsoft and G42 Emirati deal to accelerate the pace of AI deployment regionally and globally. The UAE is evolving the world and laying the groundwork for a promising future.”
Alderei added, “We take pride in seeing the name of the UAE topping every global ranking and index. We are accustomed to seeing our country compete with world powers in all indicators, thanks to the wise leadership, visionary vision, and loyal and dedicated people and residents that enable us to compete with the strongest nations in the world.”
Dr. Mohammed Qasim remarked, “His Excellency Omar Al Olama, Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Economy, is a powerful influencer on the UAE’s economy. He has a great ability to attract digital investments and has many achievements in the field of technology and artificial intelligence. Every time I meet him, I discover a new project.”
Emirati activist Bouali said, “The UAE has been selected as one of the member states and is the only Arab and regional state in the Hiroshima AI Initiative, which was announced by Japan alongside the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, Canada, and Korea.”
Bouali added, “The UAE stands as a global partner in the journey to build a future based on technology and innovation in line with its ambitious vision to achieve progress and leadership in these fields globally.
