Houthis Announce Targeting of 4 Ships in the Red and Mediterranean Seas
The Houthi militias announced on Friday their responsibility for four attacks, one of which was in coordination with an Iraqi faction.
The attacks targeted four commercial ships in the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea.
In a statement, the Houthis said they targeted the oil tanker “Waller” in the Mediterranean Sea with drones, in partnership with an Iraqi faction, while it was on its way to the port of Haifa.
The Houthis also stated that they carried out a separate attack with a ballistic missile targeting the ship “Johannes Maersk” in the Mediterranean Sea, claiming that “the operation successfully achieved its goal.”
The Houthis accused the company “Maersk,” the owner of the targeted ship “Johannes Maersk,” of being one of the most supportive companies of Israel and violating the ban on entering its ports the most.
They also claimed to have targeted the American ship “Delonyx” in the Red Sea with several ballistic missiles, alleging that “the ship was directly hit.”
Furthermore, the Houthis indicated that they simultaneously targeted the ship “Yuannis” with several explosive-laden boats, for violating the imposed ban on Israeli ports, also claiming to have successfully hit it.
Despite the Houthis‘ claims of hitting the ships in their attacks, the attack on the ship sailing 150 nautical miles northwest of Hodeidah did not cause any damage or injuries, despite being hit by five ballistic missiles, according to a British maritime authority.
The United States responded by striking several Houthi targets in the Taiz and Hodeidah governorates in an attempt to deter the escalating hostile attacks by the militias on commercial shipping.
