Iran makes new accusations against the United States – Details
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has accused the United States of starting to use “cyber terrorism” because of the ineffectiveness of sanctions.
In response to a question from the press, a President of the General Assembly of the Organization of Information Agencies of Asia-Pacific Countries, held in Tehran, said: “The United States has understood that sanctions do not work, so it has begun to use other methods… Cyber terrorism is the main problem.”
He added that Washington organized the riots in Iran but erred in its plans.
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi accused the United States of trying to “destabilize his country” in mid-January, saying that Washington is now adopting this policy of “destabilization” towards Tehran.
“Now that the United States has failed in its militarization (against Iran) and sanctions, it and its allies have resorted to the failed policy of destabilization,” he said during the CICA summit in Kazakhstan. “The Iranian nation has thwarted the US military option, as they have admitted themselves, and has inflicted a terrible defeat on the policy of sanctions and extreme pressures.”
Earlier, Ali Khamenei, the Islamic Republic’s supreme policymaker, accused the United States and Israel of involvement in the “riots” that erupted the day after the death of a young woman, Mahsa Amini, on January 16.
On October 3, he said, “These riots and disturbances were planned by the United States and the usurper and fake Zionist regime, their hired men, and some treacherous Iranians abroad who helped them.”
Protests have been on-going in Iran since the death of young woman Mahsa Amini on November 16th in a Tehran hospital, days after she was suspended by morality police for allegedly not wearing the “proper” hijab.
“Security forces killed at least 66 people in a violent crackdown after Friday prayers in Zahedan on 30 September, Amnesty International said, as confirmed by the Oslo-based Iranian Human Rights Organization, but put the death toll at 93 people who had gathered at the same site.”
The activist news agency, Harana, said in a statement that 244 demonstrators were killed in the unrest, including 32 minors. It added that 28 members of the security forces were killed, and more than 12,500 people were arrested as of last Thursday in protests in 114 cities and towns and about 81 universities.
