Iran played a major role in the Sudanese war

Iran took a practical step in the context of rapprochement with the Sudanese government and army.

Security sources reported that Iran has sent weapon shipments to support the Sudanese army in its confrontation with the “Rapid Support Forces” led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemetti).

The relations between Sudan and Iran were originally strong, with coordination and cooperation to facilitate support reaching Palestinian resistance movements.

There have been changes in the Sudanese government’s stance towards relations with Iran, and the source did not rule out the possibility that the government and the army might turn to Russia in the future, seeking stronger international support.

Studies indicate that evidence suggests Iran played a major role in the Sudanese war by supporting the weapons production sector in Sudan, and it is the second-largest weapons supplier to Khartoum.

The study, based on over two years of investigations, stated that some of the imported weapons, along with others imported from China, reached rebel groups in Sudan and South Sudan.

This study was released by the independent “Small Arms Survey” program based in Switzerland.

The study added that there is “growing evidence that Iran played a significant role in supporting the weapons manufacturing sector in Sudan” and in the Sudanese war.

It pointed out that China also provided training and technical support to the Sudanese weapons production sector.

The study included data showing that most of the imported Sudanese light weapons, small arms, ammunition, missiles, and rocket launch platforms were imported from China in recent years. However, the study also discussed the extent of military relations between Sudan and Iran, which has been a subject of regional speculation and concerns.

The study confirmed that “military ties between Iran and Sudan have strengthened over the years”.
