Macron: France will continue its “rearmament” in 2024

French President Emmanuel Macron affirmed on Sunday that France will continue its “rearmament” concerning security matters, as well as support public education and social cohesion.
Macron‘s statements came in a televised speech before New Year celebrations, during which authorities will deploy around 90,000 police officers and 5,000 soldiers to control the security situation and address what the government described as a “very significant terrorist threat.”
Macron pledged that 2024 will be a year of pride and hope for the French, with the country preparing to host the Summer Olympic Games and the reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral after a devastating fire.
Macron said, “Only once in every century can we host the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and only once in every millennium can we rebuild a cathedral… 2024 is the year of determination, choices, recovery, and pride. In fact, it is the year of hope.”
Macron sought to bring joy to the hearts of the French after a year that witnessed wars and crises abroad, in addition to protests against changes to the pension system and outbreaks of violence in the streets following the death of a teenager at the hands of the police in Paris.
