Massive Russian attack on Kyiv… as Ukrainian drones strike oil facilities
The mayor of Kyiv said on Friday that the Ukrainian capital was under a “massive attack,” while AFP correspondents reported explosions across the city.
Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram that “air defense forces are operating in Kyiv,” describing a “large-scale attack on the capital” and noting that two people had been injured in the eastern Dniprovsky district.
Loud explosions were heard in the city center, according to AFP reporters, who witnessed air-defense systems intercepting drones and missiles.
Klitschko added that a fire had broken out on the roof of a five-storey residential building in the Solomyansky district, while requests for medical assistance were reported in the Desnyansky and Shevchenkivsky districts.
Another fire also affected a residential building in the Podilsky district.
Moscow has intensified its attacks on Kyiv in recent months, targeting in particular Ukrainian energy infrastructure, railway systems and residential areas.
Meanwhile, Russian officials said that a Ukrainian drone attack early Friday had damaged a ship, residential buildings and an oil depot in the Russian port of Novorossiysk on the Black Sea.
They added that the attack had also injured three crew members aboard the vessel.
The operational command in the Krasnodar region said on Telegram that the three injured crew members were receiving hospital treatment.
It stated that drone fragments had struck at least four apartments, shattering windows but causing no casualties.
The attack also ignited a fire at an oil depot in a cargo terminal, which emergency crews managed to extinguish.
The operational command said that coastal buildings were also damaged, without providing further details.
