Mediterranean Parliament Grants Mohamed bin Zayed the “Global Humanitarian Personality” Award


The Mediterranean Parliament has awarded Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, the “Global Humanitarian Personality” award, in recognition of his role and continuous contributions over decades in humanitarian relief efforts around the world.

The Emirates News Agency reported that the award, presented in its inaugural edition, aims to highlight the efforts of leading figures in humanitarian, political, economic, cultural, scientific, and other fields worldwide.

The Parliament selected Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as the “Global Humanitarian Personality” during the 18th session of the General Assembly, held in Prague, Portugal, with the unanimous agreement of members, describing him as the most influential figure in the global humanitarian field, acknowledging his ongoing efforts to support humanity wherever it may be, his generous initiatives in the humanitarian field, and his exceptional response to aiding those affected by crises and humanitarian disasters, without regard to race or religion, alongside Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan‘s contributions to supporting individuals and entities seeking to build bridges of communication, enhance understanding, and peace among the peoples of the region and their countries.

The award praised the ongoing humanitarian efforts of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan over decades, including his announcement of the “Zayed Humanitarian Legacy Initiative,” which allocates 20 billion dirhams for humanitarian issues in the most needy areas of the world on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the passing of the founder, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, on Zayed Humanitarian Action Day… aiming to improve the quality of life and sustainable development significantly for the most vulnerable communities around the world, confirming the humanitarian legacy of Sheikh Zayed in humanitarian action.

It noted that the United Arab Emirates, under the leadership of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, supports many humanitarian causes in various circumstances, including providing COVID-19 vaccines to needy countries through the “Coalition of Hope” initiative, as well as the significant contribution of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to supporting refugees and providing medical and humanitarian aid to victims of conflicts.

Naeem Mayyara, President of the Mediterranean Parliament, said: “We are proud to announce Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as the Global Humanitarian Personality, the first to receive it… He has been and remains a true advocate for humanitarian causes for decades, personally participating in many initiatives that have contributed to preserving peace, protecting human life, and sowing prosperity, in addition to his efforts to enhance global stability, thus raising the standards of the prestigious award.”

Dr. Abdul Salam Al Madani, Ambassador of the Mediterranean Parliament to the GCC countries, said: “The Mediterranean Parliament is honored to award Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan the Global Humanitarian Personality award.”

He emphasized that Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has provided tireless efforts under his leadership to the United Arab Emirates on various humanitarian issues, having a positive impact on the lives of millions of people worldwide… confirming that his steadfast commitment to protecting lives has not only provided practical support but has also inspired a new generation of leaders to follow in his footsteps.”

He stated that “the award confirms the UAE’s continued vision for a more harmonious and prosperous world.”

The Mediterranean Parliament was founded in 2005 as an international organization bringing together the national parliaments of the Mediterranean and Gulf regions.
