The majority of Israelis believe that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should resign due to his failure in the face of the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023.
According to Israeli Channel 12, “After the resignation of Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi and Southern Command Chief Yaron Finkelman, we asked Israeli citizens on Friday evening whether they think Netanyahu should also step down because of his role in the catastrophic failure during the attack.”

It added: “According to the poll results, 63% of respondents believe Netanyahu should resign, 27% think he should not leave his position, and 10% said they don’t know.”
It continued: “Among opposition voters, 92% answered that the Prime Minister should resign, while 33% of coalition party voters think he should leave office, compared to 53% of coalition voters who believe Netanyahu should remain in his position.”
According to the channel, participants were also asked which institution they consider primarily responsible for the October 7 failure: the government, the Israeli military, or the Shin Bet (Israeli internal security service).

“20% of respondents believe the government is responsible, 12% think the Israeli military is primarily to blame, 9% hold the Shin Bet accountable, and 52% say all these institutions share responsibility for the failure,” it stated.
Trump’s Influence
The channel further asked Israelis whom they trust more to handle the release of hostages, after former U.S. President Donald Trump pressed for an agreement between Israel and Hamas.
53% of respondents said they trust Trump more, compared to 23% who trust Netanyahu more, while 24% said they don’t know.

These results align with another poll published on Friday by the Israeli newspaper Maariv.
Resignation?
According to the poll, 62% of Israelis believe that, like the Chief of Staff, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should resign due to his responsibility for the October 7 failure. 29% oppose this, and 9% expressed no opinion.
The channel added: “93% of opposition voters support Netanyahu’s resignation, compared to only 31% of coalition party voters. Notably, 18% of Likud voters themselves think Netanyahu should step down due to his responsibility for this failure.”

Have negotiations between Israel and Hamas reached a deadlock?
It also indicated that 70% of the public supports completing a prisoner exchange agreement and establishing a full ceasefire in Gaza, while 17% believe hostilities should resume after the first phase of the agreement, and 4% completely oppose the deal.
However, the poll shows that only 28% of Israelis believe the prisoner agreement will be fully implemented. In contrast, 39% expect the deal to fall through, while 33% chose not to express an opinion.
