Rewarding the factions fighting alongside the Muslim Brotherhood in Sudan… What is the issue?

Sudanese farmers from the Gezira project and legal experts revealed what they described as a deal between the military leadership, the Muslim Brotherhood, and the Justice and Equality Movement regarding the allocation of part of the project and its management, in exchange for the participation of the movement led by Finance Minister Gabriel Ibrahim in the fight against the Rapid Support Forces.

Jad Karim Ali, head of the Gezira and Managil Farmers’ Alliance, told Sudan Tribune that an agreement had been signed with the Zubaida Company, not a memorandum of understanding as previously reported.

Karim and some members of the alliance accused the military and the Muslim Brotherhood of extensive interference in the project, stressing that Gabriel Ibrahim had sought to tighten his control over all government directives related to the Gezira project in recent times.

He noted that Gabriel, in his official capacity in the government, was acting with wide authorization, particularly regarding the project’s policies.

He attributed these interventions to the Finance Minister’s attempts to settle groups from Darfur in the Gezira project, to transform it into an institution, and to impoverish the will of the farmers, thus making the project an easy target and a soft target to swallow.

Karim confirmed that the citizens and farmers of the Gezira project would not allow any part of the project to be allocated or cut off for anyone, pointing out that providing residential land is the responsibility of the government.

He viewed Finance Minister Gabriel Ibrahim’s interventions in the Gezira project as part of the policies of armed movements, primarily the Islamic movements, with the knowledge of government officials.

He added that certain individuals — whose identities have not been specified — are leading a sabotage project against the Gezira project, most of whom are Islamists.

He explained that this group is trying to exploit the circumstances of the war to pass an agenda against the project and attempt to swallow it.

Finally, lawyer Hatem al-Senhouri confirmed in an interview with Sudan Tribune that the government’s attempt to give the Justice and Equality Movement the right to manage the Gezira project or any part of its administration is part of political bribery.

He stated that these steps are considered a reward for the factions and wings fighting alongside the Islamic movement and its organizations by giving them projects to manage, such as the Gezira project.
