Saudi Arabia Plans to Build the World’s First Dragon Ball Theme Park

The Saudi Qiddiya Investment Company announced today, Friday, that it would build the world’s first amusement park based on the idea of the comic book series, films, and video games “Dragon Ball” in Saudi Arabia.

According to the Reuters news agency, the company said in a press release that the park, centered around the world of the fictional martial arts fighter Goku and his friends, would be part of the Qiddiya Investment project near Riyadh.

The project, which will span 500,000 square meters, will include walkways and attractions spread across 7 areas inspired by the “Dragon Ball” series, as well as hotels and restaurants.

The publication of stories from the “Dragon Ball” series began in the Japanese magazine Weekly Shonen Jump in 1984, before evolving into movies, video games, and TV series distributed in over 80 countries.

Its author, Akira Toriyama, a Japanese manga artist, passed away at the age of 68 earlier this month, prompting fans worldwide to bid him farewell with mourning ceremonies and memorials.

Saudi Arabia’s efforts to diversify its oil and gas-dependent economy include the construction of several massive entertainment projects. The Qiddiya project is being built on a site larger than twice the size of Walt Disney World in Florida, USA, and will also feature a Six Flags theme park.
