14 People Killed in Horrific Accident in Tunnel in China

Official Chinese media reported on Wednesday that 14 people were killed and 37 others injured in a collision involving a bus inside a tunnel in northern China.

Government channel CCTV quoted local authorities in Shanxi province, stating that the accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. local time (06:30 UTC) on Tuesday.

The channel noted that the bus carrying 51 people had collided with the tunnel’s inner wall.

The official Xinhua news agency confirmed the death toll and injuries in a separate report, without providing details on the severity of the injuries of the victims, and stated that an investigation had been launched to determine the cause of the accident.

Road accidents are common in China due to the lack of strict safety measures, and in February last year, 16 people were killed and dozens injured in a collision in Hunan province, central China.

A month earlier, 19 people were killed and 20 others injured in a road accident in Jiangxi province, eastern China.
