Syria: 6 Dead in “Tragic” Road Accident in Latakia
A tragic road accident in the coastal city of Latakia, Syria, resulted in six deaths and several injuries on Friday, according to the Syrian news agency “SANA.”
The agency reported, “Six people died, and others were injured to varying degrees following a road accident involving a public transport bus coming from Aleppo towards Latakia, near the Joubeh junction on the Latakia highway.”
Dareed Martkoush, a member of the executive for the transport sector, told “SANA,” “As soon as the accident was reported, ambulances and rescue teams from the traffic police, Al-Hanadi locality, and the fire brigade rushed to the scene to extricate those trapped in the bus and transport them to Tishreen University Hospital and Al-Othman Surgical Hospital.”

Martkoush added that “the accident was caused by the driver’s distraction and inattention, leading the bus to collide with bridge pillars, causing significant damage. The rescue teams intervened immediately to separate the bus’s roof from its chassis and extract the trapped passengers to transport them to the hospital for treatment and urgent first aid.”

He explained that the bus carried “29 passengers, in addition to the driver and the attendant. The accident resulted in six deaths and several injuries, with two of the injured being immediately taken to the operating rooms.”
