Death of 5 People and Injury of 21 Others in “Terrible” Road Accident in Afghanistan

Five people died and 21 others were injured in a “terrible” road accident in the province of Samangan, northern Afghanistan, according to the Afghan news channel “Tolo”.

The channel quoted local officials of the Taliban in Samangan province as saying: “This accident resulted in the death of 5 people and the injury of 21 others”, specifying that “the accident occurred on the Darra Suf – Balkh expressway”.

Meanwhile, the director of Samangan Provincial Hospital, Sayed Osman Hamidi, said that “the health condition of 15 of the people injured in the accident is critical”, indicating that a child is among the victims of the accident.

Residents of Darra Suf district in Samangan province use trucks for their transportation due to the destruction of several roads following recent floods in the region.

Road accidents in Samangan last year resulted in the deaths of at least 48 people and the injury of 160 others.

Published statistics indicate that road deterioration and driver negligence are among the main causes of road accidents in the country.
