Three Injured by Gunfire During Eid al-Fitr Celebration in Philadelphia


At least three people were injured Wednesday evening in a mass shooting that occurred during an event organized for Eid al-Fitr in Philadelphia, the largest city in Pennsylvania, in the eastern United States.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel said at a press conference that the shooting occurred around 2:30 p.m. local time (6:30 p.m. GMT), noting that police heard about 30 shots fired at the scene, according to the Associated Press.

He added that two groups of people began firing at each other, prompting people to flee the scene of the incident.

Bethel also said that police apprehended four men and one woman in connection with the incident, and that four firearms were found at the scene.

According to police, the shooting took place during an Eid al-Fitr celebration event.

In the same context, police fired at one of the suspects, a 15-year-old boy whom they said “was carrying a firearm, and who was injured in the shoulder and leg”.

A man was also shot in the abdomen, while another young man was shot in the hand, according to the same source.

Police have not announced any deaths among the injured so far (9:30 p.m. GMT), and have not revealed the identity of the suspects or their motivations.
