Tunisia completes reform process; new election law
Tunisian President Kais Saied confirmed that a draft of a new election law will be prepared taking into account the remarks and proposals that will be made by those who supported the reform process on July 25 and are involved in the process of establishing a new constitution, according to a statement published by the Tunisian presidency.
He continued: Unlike those who manifest what they don’t want and have sneaked up in the name of this path without having anything to do with it.
This came during a meeting with Tunisian President Kais Saied on Monday at the Carthage Palace, Farouk Bouaskar, chairman of the Independent High Electoral Commission.
The meeting dealt with the Authority’s preparations for the date of December 17th, the date of election of members of the Assembly of the Representatives of the People.
The new law settles the conditions for running in the December 17th parliamentary elections.
The political scene in Tunisia is waiting for the electoral law to be issued in order to determine its position on the legislative elections.
Tunisian President Kais Saied has already announced that a law will be drafted to elect members of parliament and the regional council, enabling “marginalized” people to participate in decision-making.
Saied said in previous statements: “An electoral law will be drafted to elect members of the parliament, the regional council, and the authorities (municipalities), as stipulated in the constitution (new after the end of the referendum), enabling those who were completely marginalized and absent to participate in decision-making.”
He added: “A text will be issued from the new draft constitution that clarifies the role of the National Council of Regions, which consists of deputies elected by regions and regions.”
He continued: “The task of the first state is to achieve integration, and the second council (regions and authorities) is only a way to do so that the people are not marginalized in the economic sphere and development.”
“A text will be issued to clarify the relationship between the two chambers,” Saied said, without elaborating.
