Jordan affirmed its support for the Kingdom of Morocco on the issue of the Sahara and the need for Morocco’s sovereignty over all its territory.

This came in a joint press conference between Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi and Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita on Monday in Amman.

Safadi said that he assured his Moroccan counterpart of Jordan’s permanent position in support of Morocco’s unity, noting that Jordan’s position is clear and supportive of resolving the Sahara issue in accordance with the Moroccan vision, which stresses the need for the Kingdom’s sovereignty over all its territories.

He noted that he agreed with his Moroccan counterparts that the Palestinian issue is the central issue, stressing the need for joint Arab action to find solutions to all Arab issues in accordance with the common Arab vision.

Morocco does not want a solution to the Sahara issue outside the United Nations

For his part, Bourita expressed Morocco’s support for all Jordanian positions, especially with regard to the Palestinian issue and Jordan’s role in protecting holy sites.

He also expressed Morocco’s appreciation for Jordan’s position on the Moroccan Sahara issue, stressing that Jordan’s position is supportive of Moroccan solutions.

Bourita said that Morocco is happy with the continuous communication with the Kingdom of Jordan and the coordination between the two countries on all issues of common concern, expressing his constant pleasure at his presence in Jordan and the dialog and discussion with the Jordanian Foreign Minister on all regional and international issues.

The two ministers held talks at the headquarters of the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Amman this evening, which will also be completed in the coming hours.
