Turkish authorities deport members of Hamas. Will Ankara cut ties with the movement?

The Turkish began deporting dozens of Palestinian activists linked to Hamas from its territory, as part of an agreement between Erdogan and the Israeli authorities.

A Palestinian official told Israel Today that Israel recently provided Turkey with a list of Hamas members and information about their involvement in activities against Hamas, prompting Ankara to ask them to leave its territory.

He said: “Turkey has asked these people to leave, and this has already happened in the last few months, some people with links to the military wing of Hamas have been deported”.

He added: “Turkey informed the Hamas leadership that economic interests play a role in the relationship with Israel, pointing out that the renewed relations between Turkey and Israel are supposed to be diplomatic and political, but Hamas knows that Israel has influence on Turkey when it comes to security issues, and a few Israeli security representatives visited Turkey”.

It is worth mentioning that Israeli media mentioned during the visit of the Israeli President Isaac Herzog to Turkey last March, that Ankara and Tel Aviv agreed to form a crisis cell headed by the Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Senior Advisor to the Turkish President.

According to the same source, Israel has once again put forward its demand to restrict the activity of Hamas movement in Turkish territory.

Herzog said: He found Erdogan open to real dialog, noting that he discussed with him a series of subjects whose practical effects will be examined on the ground.
