Turkish Defense Minister: Libyan National Army would be viewed as targets if they attack Turkish forces

On Sunday, Turkish Defense Minister, Hulusi Akar, alerted that the Libyan National Army (LNA) forces led by Khalifa Haftar and their supporters based in eastern Libya would be seen as legitimate targets if they tried to attack Turkish troops in the region.

Akar stated during a visit to Turkish forces in Tripoli that LNA forces and his supporters would have nowhere to run if they attacked Turkish forces. He also added that they would become targets for Ankara everywhere.

It should be indicated that Turkey is the main foreign supporter of Libya’s Government of National Accord (GNA) based in Tripoli that has been struggling with the LNA for years.

Otherwise, the GNA and LNA signed in October a ceasefire pact and the United Nations has been seeking a political dialogue aimed to make elections next year as a solution.
