UN fears Gaza conflict escalation into a comprehensive regional war… Details

Warnings from the United Nations about the expansion of the Israeli conflict in Gaza have once again escalated. The United Nations confirmed on Friday that the risk of a broader regional conflict in the Middle East remains, as the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip approaches its fourth month.

A spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated in a press release that the escalation of violence in the West Bank, including settler violence, is “deeply concerning,” according to the Arab World News Agency.

The statement also emphasized that the exchange of gunfire across the borders between Israel and Lebanon signals a broader escalation of the conflict, affecting regional stability. Guterres called on all members of the international community to do everything in their power “and use their influence on the parties concerned” to prevent escalation in the region.

Guterres urged all parties to exercise the utmost restraint and take urgent steps to ease tensions in the region. He appealed to all members of the international community to do everything in their power to use their influence on the parties involved to prevent regional escalation.

The Israeli army is intensifying its war on hospitals and healthcare teams in the Gaza Strip as part of a destructive war on Gaza, causing material and human losses, massive infrastructure damage, and an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe, according to Gaza authorities and the United Nations.

Approximately 1.9 million residents of Gaza, or 85% of the population, have been internally displaced since the start of Israeli operations following attacks by Hamas in southern Israel on October 7th. According to the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the recent wave of displacement resulted from intensified hostilities in the southern city of Khan Yunis and Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip, in addition to evacuation orders issued by the Israeli army.
