US “Punishes” Houthis: Drones and Control Station Destroyed

In an attempt to neutralize militia threats, US forces destroyed seven drones and a vehicle used as a control station within the past 24 hours.

The US Central Command (Centcom) stated on the platform “X” (formerly Twitter) that the strikes were conducted because the drones and the vehicle “posed an imminent threat to US coalition forces and commercial ships in the region.”

Centcom added that “these actions were taken to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer.”

The command also indicated that “this ongoing malicious and reckless behavior by the Iran-backed Houthis threatens regional stability and endangers the lives of sailors across the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.”

Since November, the Houthis have been launching missile and drone attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea, claiming that they are linked to Israel or headed to its ports, supporting the Palestinians in Gaza amidst the ongoing war since October 7th.

The Houthis, along with the Lebanese Hezbollah and Hamas, are part of the Iran-supported “Axis of Resistance” opposing the United States and Israel.

Washington, an ally of Israel, leads an international naval coalition aimed at “protecting” maritime navigation in this strategic area through which 12% of global trade passes.

In an attempt to deter them, US and British forces have been conducting strikes on Houthi positions since January 12th, although the US military occasionally carries out strikes alone on missiles and drones deemed ready for launch.
