Yemen’s Muslim Brotherhood seeks new external support
Following the near-consensus among the population rejecting the policies of the Muslim Brotherhood organization and their militias in Yemen, and demands for the cleansing of areas from their presence, the Reform Party, the political arm of the group, is seeking external support under the pretext of diplomatic relations.
In this context, Abd al-Razzaq al-Hajri, a member of the Supreme Body of the Yemeni Reform Assembly and the head of the parliamentary bloc, met with the French Ambassador Catherine Corm-Kammoun yesterday.
According to the party-affiliated website “Al-Sahwa,” al-Hajri extended congratulations from the Reform leadership to the ambassador on the occasion of her appointment, wishing her continued success and prosperity.
Al-Hajri praised France’s supportive role for legitimacy and the humanitarian and relief support provided by the friendly French Republic. He also discussed the developments and changes on the national and regional fronts, as reported by the party-affiliated website.
Al-Hajri reiterated the Reform’s commitment to achieving a just peace in Yemen under the auspices of the UN Special Envoy, putting an end to the suffering of the Yemeni people. He affirmed the Reform’s positive engagement with the efforts of Saudi Arabia, Oman, friends, and the international community.
He called for international pressure on the Houthi militias to stop their escalation and crimes against the Yemeni people and to lean towards peace. Al-Hajri also urged the international community to provide economic support to the government to alleviate the suffering of Yemenis and increase humanitarian and relief aid.
For her part, the ambassador reiterated her country’s support for legitimacy and the government, supporting peace efforts in Yemen and the endeavors of the UN envoy. She confirmed her country’s continued humanitarian, relief, and developmental support to Yemen, emphasizing the importance of the unity of the legitimate government to strengthen it for the benefit of the nation and the Yemeni people.
According to observers, the Muslim Brotherhood always seeks alliances to strengthen its position in Yemen, especially after being excluded from the legitimate government and peace negotiations. This has led them to return to the Houthi militias in search of a role in Yemen’s future, aiming to become members of the Houthi government.
What is noteworthy is that its leaders try to claim that they are alongside legitimacy and against the Houthi militias. However, the realities on the ground confirm the falsehood of the Brotherhood‘s claims, as they commit crimes and violations against the Yemeni people in several southern provinces, plunder the Yemeni people, and seize vital sectors. Additionally, they attempt to thwart the efforts of the legitimate government and the Arab coalition to end the conflict in Yemen.
