37 dead in Belgium floods

The Belgian authorities said on Thursday that the number of victims of last week’s floods has risen to 37 and that 6 others are missing.

The Belgian Crisis Response Center, which coordinates rescue and relief efforts, said that police experts had so far identified 32 of the dead.

Flooding has claimed at least 160 lives in western Germany.

The Belgian Center added that of the 473 reported missing, six had not yet been found.

In a statement, the center explained: “There are indications that some may be alive, but unfortunately there are very strong possibilities that others will be added to the death toll.”

In Germany, more than 170 people died in last week’s floods, the country’s worst natural disaster in more than half a century, and thousands have gone missing.
