Tunisian president: el-Sisi saved Egypt in a difficult historical period

Tunisian President Kais Saied said on Friday that his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah el-Sisi had saved his country in a difficult historical period.

The Tunisian president expressed his pride for the historical relations with Egypt, which has always stood by Tunisia, recalling el-Sisi’s directives to provide Tunisia with all the medical supplies and medicines it needs during the period of the coronavirus pandemic.

This came during a meeting Friday at the Carthage Palace between Saied and Mostafa Madbouli, Prime Minister, in the presence of Najla Bouden, Tunisian Prime Minister, and Rania Al Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation, President of the Egyptian side in the Joint Ministerial Committee.

The meeting was also attended by the Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Trade and Export Development, the President of the Tunisian side in the Joint Ministerial Committee, and the Ambassador of Tunisia in Cairo.

The Tunisian President began the meeting by requesting that his sincere greetings be conveyed to President el-Sisi, who was greatly appreciated and respected.

He said President el-Sisi shortened the distance in time, shortened the distance in history, saved Egypt during a difficult historical period, and then launched a reconstruction and development boom that President Saied saw himself during his visit to Egypt, according to Egypt’s official Middle East News Agency.

The Tunisian president said that Egypt’s achievements and successes will continue to be a source of pride for us, and we want to unite and cross Syria to a stage of growth and prosperity that meets the aspirations of our one people in all Arab countries.

The Tunisian president called for exploring and adopting non-traditional cooperation mechanisms that promote cooperation between Arab countries, foremost among them bilateral cooperation between Egypt and Tunisia, welcoming what was agreed between the two sides during the current session of the joint committee.

Regarding regional issues, the Tunisian president stressed that Egypt’s position on the issue of al-Nahda dam is Tunisia’s position, and this is something that represents for him personally a principle that will not deviate from, because Tunisia’s security is Egypt’s national security.

Mustapha Madbouli said President el-Sisi asked him to convey a message to President Saied that Egypt fully supports all that the Tunisian leadership is doing at this historical juncture to reform the political and constitutional track, and its full support for Tunisia.

Madbouli also thanked the Tunisian president for his firm and historic stance in supporting Egypt in the issue of al-Nahda dam, adding that this position is not surprising for Tunisia and its wise Arab leadership.
